The Dental Council of India (DCI) has announced a crucial update for postgraduate dental education in India. As per the DCI Biometric Attendance Rule 2026, all MDS students must assert a minimum of 80% biometric attendance to be allowed to present in their university and final examinations.
Under this rule, only biometrically recorded attendance via approved biometric systems will be considered authentic. Manual registers, proxy attendance, or non-digital records will not be accepted. The regulation is relevant to all acknowledged dental colleges, including both government and private institutes.
The 80% attendance necessity covers theory classes, clinical postings, and practical training, certifying that MDS students diligently participate in academic as well as hands-on clinical learning. The step aims to enhance the standard of postgraduate training, improve responsibility, and bring conformity and translucency across dental institutes.
MDS students are directed to consistently check their attendance, stick strictly to college schedules, and plan leaves consciously. Failure to meet the needed attendance percentage may result rejection from appearing in examinations, instantly affecting academic progress.
