In a shocking breach of privacy, personal information of over 1.38 lakh students who appeared for the NEET PG 2025 exam has apparently been leaked and is now being sold online for ₹3,599. The exposed data includes highly delicate details such as application IDs, phone numbers, email addresses, NEET PG scores, and other personal identifiers, raising serious worries about information security in India’s education sector.

The breach came to light when a Reddit user exposed a Telegram channel openly advertising the sale of this student’s data. Upon additional inspection, the user confirmed that the information being sold was accurate and involved their own personal details. The database is reportedly being offered in multiple packages, with some listings even providing free samples for potential buyers to test. Samples obtained by Indian Express revealed names, phone numbers, PG roll numbers, cities, states, fathers’ names, email IDs, scores, and ranks of 201 students, while the complete database is reportedly priced at ₹3,599.

The revelation has sparked widespread outrage among aspirants, many of whom have taken to social media platforms to express their concerns and frustration. Several users pointed the potential dangers of this breach, pointing out that such sensitive and important information data falling into the wrong hands could easily lead to identity theft, phishing attacks, and other numerous cybercrimes a person can never imagine, and more importantly how could someone know about avoiding it.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), responsible for conducting the NEET PG exam, has yet to issue an official statement concerning the incident. Though, a senior NBEMS official, speaking on condition of secrecy, highlighted that the board’s role is limited to conducting the examination and declaring the results.

Cyber security experts warn that this incident highlights the urgent need for new and stronger system protocols and more healthy measures to protect and prevent the sensitive data, mainly in the education and healthcare sectors. They advise people to be attentive and alert about their personal information and to report any suspicious and doubtful activity immediately. This step is to preventing from happening something unenviable.

As the investigation describes, authorities are likely to evaluate about this breach of privacy thoroughly and take necessary steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. The incident has renewed debates on data privacy laws in India and highlights the critical importance of protecting personal information in the digital age. As the AI is entering our day-to-day life this kind of privacy attacks were more likely to be happen in the future.
