In a significant step towards promoting innovation in medical education, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an advisory urging all medical colleges across India to actively participate in the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)'s "Patent Mitra" initiative.

The Patent Mitra program aims to support researchers, faculty members, and students in protecting their innovative medical technologies, research findings, and healthcare solutions through patents. The initiative provides expert guidance on intellectual property (IP) rights, patent filing procedures, and commercialization opportunities, helping innovators transform their ideas into impactful healthcare solutions.

Through this advisory, the NMC has encouraged medical institutions to establish stronger innovation ecosystems by promoting awareness about patent protection and facilitating collaboration with ICMR's Patent Mitra network. The move is expected to strengthen research culture, encourage indigenous medical innovations, and enhance India's contribution to global healthcare advancements.

Experts believe that increasing patent awareness among medical professionals will not only safeguard intellectual property but also accelerate the development of affordable medical technologies, diagnostics, and treatment solutions for patients.

With this initiative, India takes another step toward becoming a global hub for medical research, innovation, and healthcare entrepreneurship.
