New Delhi: In a move aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed medical colleges and institutions across the country to remain vigilant and refrain from granting leave to students on June 20 and June 21, 2026, except in exceptional and justified circumstances.

The directive was issued through a public notice dated June 18, 2026, following a communication from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. The advisory comes ahead of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled to be conducted on June 21.

According to the Commission, the decision has been taken as a preventive measure to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the examination. Medical institutions have been instructed to actively sensitize students regarding the importance of maintaining the sanctity of national-level entrance examinations and to discourage participation in any activity that could adversely affect the examination process.

The NMC noted that concerns had been raised based on previous incidents where certain medical students were allegedly involved in activities that compromised the integrity of examinations. In view of these concerns, colleges have been asked to exercise greater vigilance during the period leading up to and during the re-examination.

In the official communication, NMC Secretary Dr. Raghav Langer emphasized the need for medical colleges to cooperate with authorities in ensuring a transparent and malpractice-free examination environment. Institutions have been advised not to sanction leave applications on June 20 and June 21 unless supported by compelling reasons.

The advisory follows a request from the Department of Higher Education seeking assistance from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the National Medical Commission in maintaining strict oversight during the conduct of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination. Authorities have highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among educational and healthcare institutions to preserve public confidence in the examination system.

NEET UG remains the primary gateway for admission to undergraduate medical courses across India, making the examination one of the most significant assessments in the country's medical education ecosystem. Consequently, regulatory bodies have continued to strengthen measures aimed at preventing malpractice and ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates.

With the re-examination scheduled for June 21, stakeholders across the medical education sector are expected to play an active role in supporting a fair, transparent, and secure examination process. The latest NMC directive reflects the Commission's broader commitment to upholding the credibility of medical admissions and maintaining the highest standards of examination governance.
