New Delhi: Amid growing concerns surrounding the upcoming NEET UG 2026 re-examination, Supreme Court advocate Vineet Jindal has submitted a formal representation to the Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency (NTA), requesting a postponement of the re-test on behalf of 1,467 affected medical aspirants.
The re-examination is currently scheduled to be conducted on June 21, 2026, following the controversy surrounding the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak. In his representation, Jindal urged authorities to defer the examination by at least one month, arguing that students have been subjected to significant emotional, academic, and logistical hardships due to circumstances beyond their control.
Appeal Filed on Behalf of 1,467 Aspirants
According to the representation, the affected candidates have experienced considerable uncertainty and distress since the announcement of the re-examination. Jindal emphasized that students should not be made to suffer for irregularities in the examination process and deserve adequate preparation time to compete fairly.
"The aspirants are facing immense pressure and disruption despite having no role in the events that led to the re-examination," the representation reportedly stated.
Mental Health Concerns Highlighted
A key aspect of the appeal focuses on the psychological impact of the re-examination announcement. The representation notes that many students had already completed their preparation cycle and had shifted their focus toward counselling and admission procedures.
However, the sudden requirement to appear for another examination has reportedly forced them back into intensive preparation, leading to increased stress, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and emotional exhaustion.
The advocate argued that the well-being and academic future of students must be taken into consideration while making decisions regarding the examination schedule.
Logistical Difficulties for Candidates
Apart from mental health concerns, the representation also highlights practical challenges faced by students, particularly those residing in rural and remote areas. Many candidates are reportedly struggling to arrange travel, accommodation, and other necessary logistics within the limited time available before the scheduled re-examination.
Jindal stated that providing a longer preparation window would allow students and their families to make appropriate arrangements and reduce the burden caused by the sudden examination schedule.
Request for Revised Schedule
The representation urges the NTA to postpone the re-examination by at least one month and announce a revised schedule with sufficient advance notice. The move, according to the advocate, would help ensure fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all affected aspirants.
Re-NEET Schedule Remains Unchanged
As of now, the National Testing Agency has not announced any changes to the examination timetable. The NEET UG 2026 re-examination remains scheduled for June 21, 2026, and is expected to be conducted across 551 cities in India and 14 international cities.
The demand for postponement comes amid ongoing discussions regarding examination integrity and student welfare, with stakeholders closely watching for any response from the Ministry of Education and the NTA in the coming days.
As the situation develops, thousands of medical aspirants await clarity on whether the examination schedule will be revised or proceed as planned.
