New Delhi: The Healthy Indian Project (THIP) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ISLM) to strengthen evidence-based patient education and promote healthier lifestyle practices in India.
The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between medical advice provided during consultations and the practical lifestyle changes required for long-term health management.
Focus on Childhood Obesity and PCOD
As part of the initial phase of the collaboration, THIP and ISLM will develop digital patient education programmes focusing on Childhood Obesity and Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD).
These programmes are intended to help patients, caregivers and families better understand health conditions and the role of sustainable lifestyle changes in prevention and management.
The initiative comes at a time when lifestyle-related health concerns such as obesity, diabetes, fatty liver disease and PCOD are becoming increasingly important areas of healthcare.
ISLM to Provide Scientific Oversight
Under the partnership, the Indian Society of Lifestyle Medicine will serve as the Knowledge Partner, providing scientific review and academic oversight for the educational programmes.
This role is expected to help ensure that the content is medically sound, evidence-based and aligned with established principles of Lifestyle Medicine.
THIP Academy to Develop Digital Learning Programmes
THIP Academy, the digital patient education platform of THIP, will be responsible for developing the curriculum and delivering the programmes through a self-paced online learning format.
The programmes will go beyond conventional health-awareness material by incorporating expert-led videos, interactive modules, assessments and practical guidance.
This approach is designed to make health information easier to understand and help patients and caregivers apply the knowledge in their everyday lives.
Bringing Patient Education Beyond the Clinic
A key objective of the partnership is to make reliable health education accessible beyond the traditional doctor-patient consultation.
While healthcare professionals routinely provide lifestyle advice, converting that advice into sustainable behavioural changes can remain challenging. Digital education can provide patients with an opportunity to revisit information, learn at their own pace and better understand the steps involved in managing their health.
Lifestyle Medicine and Preventive Healthcare
Lifestyle Medicine focuses on evidence-based interventions involving areas such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management and other behavioural factors. These approaches can complement conventional medical treatment, particularly in the prevention and long-term management of chronic health conditions.
The THIP-ISLM partnership seeks to use digital education to improve awareness of these principles among patients and caregivers.
What the Organisations Said
Dr. Lakshmi Sundar, President of ISLM, highlighted the challenge of translating medical advice received during consultations into lasting lifestyle changes. According to the initiative, extending evidence-based education beyond the clinical setting could help patients better understand and implement healthy lifestyle practices.
Sudipta Sengupta, CEO of THIP, emphasised the importance of empowering patients with reliable health information. Through THIP Academy, the organisation aims to collaborate with medical associations and convert their expertise into structured digital learning programmes.
More Programmes Expected
The collaboration between THIP and ISLM is expected to expand beyond the initial programmes on Childhood Obesity and PCOD. Additional initiatives may cover other areas of preventive healthcare and chronic disease management.
The partnership represents an effort to strengthen patient education through credible medical expertise and accessible digital learning, while encouraging individuals and families to take a more informed role in their long-term health and wellbeing.
